I am a Senior Manager in PKF Smith Cooper’s employment tax team. I am based in Derby, but I work across all of the PKF Smith Cooper offices.

Employment tax compliance is now a major focus for HMRC, with significant recent changes to the legislation and an investment in their employer compliance inspection teams. I can help you to ensure that you are seen as a proactive and compliant employer by HMRC, leading to fewer inspections. I can also help you to investigate how you could potentially save money by the effective and compliant introduction of salary sacrifice arrangements.
Experience counts
I have 30 years’ experience in dealing with all aspects of employment tax issues, initially as an HMRC employer compliance inspector and for the last 18 years as an adviser with one of the ‘big four’ accountancy firms. In addition to salary sacrifice arrangements, I can provide advice on the tax treatment of benefits in kind, HMRC inspections, travel and subsistence payments, termination payments, employment status, and the Construction Industry Scheme.
Deeper knowledge
While I deal with all aspects of employer compliance, I have extensive knowledge of employment status and termination payment issues. For the past 12 years, I have also specialised in aspects of the education sector, specifically universities, colleges and academies.
Personally speaking
When not at work, I enjoy birdwatching, both in this country and abroad. My sons and I are season-ticket holders at Nottingham Forest. I was lucky enough to experience the glory years; for them – they get to hear my stories of the glory years!
