This National Apprenticeship week we took the chance to recognise the dedication our apprentices and trainees show towards their studies and work, particularly during the recent challenges of remote learning and online exams.

Here at Smith Cooper, we are committed to the training and development of our team, and our trainees have played an instrumental part in the success of the firm.

We used the week to recognise those that have particularly excelled, celebrate their successes and highlight the benefits of undertaking an apprenticeship at Smith Cooper. Read some of the praise given by our senior team to our apprentices below:

Holly Cowley, Accounts Assistant

During the first lock down several of our colleagues were furloughed which left just Holly in the Derby management accounts team to oversee the client portfolio and ensure communication was kept up to expectations. Clients have been happy with Holly and I have received great feedback!

Dani Tracey, Audit Trainee

Dani recently completed her ACA Professional level, passing 9 exams since last May and averaging 90%, including getting 100% in her tax paper. Well done Dani.

Campbell O’Brien, Junior Insolvency Administrator

The Nottingham Insolvency Team would like to give a mention to Campbell O’Brien… Having never worked in professional services prior to Smith Cooper, and having only joined the Team 5 months prior to the first lockdown, Campbell quickly adapted to working from home from what is generally an office based role, rising to the challenge of the restrictions as well as continuing his AAT studies…Well done Campbell!

Josh Gurton, Corporate Finance Executive

Josh completed the first 6 ACA papers in his first 3 months at Smith Cooper, which usually takes students around a year to finish – Great achievement Josh.

Harry Cook, Tax Assistant

Harry recently passed his final ATT exam with an impressive score of 85% and will now move on to studying for the CTA qualification later this year. Harry joined us from KPMG and at 24 years old, he has already amassed almost 5 years of tax/accounting experience, having made the decision not to go to university and instead pursue an alternative route into the profession. We have been impressed with Harry’s work ethic and his enthusiasm to learn since he joined us, he settled into the wider tax team with relative ease. Well done Harry, we hope that you have a long and rewarding career with Smith Cooper.
