Katie Whitworth is the latest tax specialist to join PKF Smith Cooper, as we continue to grow the expert team behind our tax services through new career opportunities.

Katie steps into the role of Employment Tax Manager, after occupying the same position at a leading fitness apparel company for two years. After graduating from the University of Birmingham with a BSc in Sports and Exercise Science, Katie started her tax career at a UK top-10 accounting company where she worked for four years and earned two promotions.

In her new role, Katie will support the Head of Employment Tax in leading our employment tax team and help business owners across the Midlands with tax compliance.

As the home of PKF International in the Midlands, PKF Smith Cooper provides a range of accounting and advisory services to small and large businesses in the region from its offices in Derby, Nottingham, Birmingham and Ashbourne.

PKF was recognised among the best UK tax advisory firms for domestic and international private client when it ranked 17th on eprivateclient’s ‘Top Accountancy Firms 2022’ table. In 2023, PKF Smith Cooper’s tax team were named as finalists for ‘Best Tax Practice in a Regional Firm’ at the renowned Tolley’s Taxation Awards.

Our tax division has gained 15 new recruits over the past 12 months alone. The team was also bolstered by a series of internal promotions during 2022, including 4 to tax partner and 4 to manager. With expansion ongoing, we are continuing to recruit new talent with a number of vacancies including corporate tax manager positions in Nottingham and Birmingham.

Laura Parr, Head of Employment Tax, commented: “I am delighted to welcome Katie to our employment tax team. Her specialist knowledge and experience will be great assets to our clients as we support them in all areas of compliance including expenses, benefits, IR35/employment status, NMW, and HMRC investigations into CJRS Furlough, as well as implementing salary sacrifice arrangements to enhance employees’ take-home pay. Since Covid-19 we have seen an increase in employee global mobility, and Katie’s addition to our team will help us further develop this area of work as we grow and enhance our service offering.”

Katie Whitworth said: “It is great to be joining PKF Smith Cooper and moving back into the professional services industry. I am looking forward to working with a variety of clients and getting stuck into solving some of their trickiest tax compliance issues!”
