Friday 22nd September saw professional’s clients, colleagues and friends alike from across the Midlands join us for the annual Smith Cooper Charity Golf Day in aid our chosen charity, ‘Appeal 4 Alfie’.

The event saw 92 golfers tee off and play the 18-hole Priory course at Breadsall Priory in what can only be described as perfect golfing conditions, raising an outstanding £2554.

Our chosen charity, ‘Appeal 4 Alfie’ was established by Smith Cooper employee Emily Oliver, and provides a lifeline of support to her 6-year-old son Alife who has Cerebral Palsy. Alfie has spastic quadriplegic cerebral palsy, meaning he struggles to move his legs and arms properly.

In 2016, thanks to the efforts of Smith Cooper and other community fundraisers, Alfie had a state of the art, intensive surgery, transforming his life and giving him the opportunity to take his first few tentative steps.

The proceeds raised from the 2017 annual charity golf day will go towards the continuing provision of physiotherapy that Alfie desperately needs to give him the best chance of walking and moving freely in the future.

The top 3 teams of the day were:

  • 1st with 57.7 points – Smith Cooper & Co
  • 2nd with 58.9 points – John Pye Property & Co
  • 3rd with 61.1 points – FHP Property Consultants & Co

Winners of our bonus golfing competitions which also took place on the day, include:

  • Nearest the pin, which was won by Fraser Cunningham of Smith Partnership Solicitors
  • Longest drive, won by Gordon Panter of PMS Diecasting
  • Beat the pro, won by Paul Wood of Broadview Financial Services Ltd

Dean Nelson, Partner at Smith Cooper commented: “Appeal 4 Alfie is a charity close to our hearts here at Smith Cooper. It’s a privilege that we’re able to support Emily and Alfie in such a way, and contribute towards the invaluable care and treatment that Alfie desperately needs.”

Dean added: “I can’t thank our clients, intermediaries and friends enough for coming along to the golf day, and supporting us. Their generosity allowed us to raise more money than ever before, showing a real sense of community and compassion.”
