Claire Spencer

Corporate Finance Partner // Nottingham Derby

I head up PKF Smith Cooper’s Corporate Finance team in the East Midlands, working closely with Darren Hodson and David Crump, advising shareholders and owner managed businesses across the region. For over 25 years I have been passionate about developing strong relationships with clients and contacts, understanding their businesses and their aspirations to help create the best solution for them as they grow or sell their businesses.

My most recent role was as a founding partner at an independent corporate finance boutique working on transactions in the mid-market, with a focus particularly on environmental consulting and the built environment, with strong links with the private equity community. Prior to that I spent 14 years at a global firm as a director co-leading a regional team, focusing on business services, industrials (particularly manufacturing, packaging and recycling), along with food and consumer, technology and healthcare.

I have substantial experience in corporate sales and acquisitions, having sold a large number of businesses cross border, and an increasing number to private equity firms.  Understanding what really matters to my clients then maximising and protecting that, and their businesses’ value, is what drives me throughout the process.

What can I do for your organisation?

My first objective is to be a sounding board, to understand your business and ascertain your objectives.  We can then help you shape your growth and/or exit plans depending upon where you and your business are on your respective journeys, whether this is finance raising (debt and private equity), growth through acquisition, or a sale of all or part of your business.

Please do get in touch and I can help you to understand your options for the future.

Deal success

  • Sale of Kura to Zeelo

Personally speaking

Outside work, the majority of my time is spent with friends and family, eating, drinking and holidaying when possible. Otherwise, my teenage daughter and a small menagerie keep me busy: my cocker spaniel, Wilson, keeps me active, with plenty of walks in the Peak District and my inherited Eclectus parrot, Georgie, is always available for a chat. My daughter and I are avid musical theatre goers and can often be found in London, taking in a show and seeing the sights.
