We are delighted to welcome back Sam Thompson, a Senior Insolvency Administrator in the Nottingham office, to his original role at Smith Cooper this week, following a 4 month sabbatical to go travelling.
Sam has now been a dedicated member of the Business Recovery and Insolvency team at Smith Cooper for over 6 years, having joined the firm after an extended period of work experience whilst studying an Accounting & Finance degree in Leeds.
Having joined straight from University to forge a career at Smith Cooper, Sam expressed a desire to broaden his cultural experiences, and become the first Smith Cooper employee to take a sabbatical, having gained endorsement from the Partnership.
During his sabbatical, Sam was lucky enough to visit 15 different countries around the world. Starting his journey in Singapore, he travelled throughout Asia, south to Australia and New Zealand, before crossing over the Pacific to Canada (via Hawaii), through the United States and into Central America, before finally finishing his trip in Cuba. Sam experienced many highlights during his trip, which included swimming with whale sharks in the Philippines, and taking a helicopter ride over the Franz Josef glacier and around Mount Cook in New Zealand – amongst many other things, too numerous to mention!
Sam comments, ‘It had been something that I’d been passionate about for a long time, but Smith Cooper helped make the dream a reality by supporting me in going on sabbatical, and I was definitely lucky that my application was considered, whilst being fortunate to be supported by my colleagues in my absence.’
Despite only returning to the office on Monday, Sam is eager to make the most of his full holiday entitlement, with only a brief welcome back before he leaves for Portugal later this week.
We look forward to hearing more about his trip and are pleased to welcome him back to Smith Cooper.
