I offer candid, proactive advice to owner-managers, boards and individuals facing financial distress or underperformance, helping them understand their position early and identify the most effective route forward.
Experience counts
I am a licensed insolvency practitioner and a member of the Association of Business Recovery Professionals (R3 – Rescue, Recovery, Renewal). I qualified as an insolvency practitioner in 2006 and became an appointment taker in 2008.
I have spent my entire professional career advising on business recovery, restructuring and insolvency matters. Prior to joining PKF Smith Cooper, I worked for a well-established East Midlands accountancy practice, where I spent 18 years gaining experience across all aspects of business recovery assignments.
Since joining PKF Smith Cooper in 2009, I have led the firm’s Business Recovery & Restructuring team, advising companies and individuals both locally and nationally. During that time, I have successfully saved numerous businesses through restructuring, refinancing and accelerated sales of businesses and assets as going concerns, preserving employment and stakeholder value wherever possible.
I have also acted on high-profile and complex appointments, including acting as liquidator of a professional football club.
Deeper knowledge
I specialise in complex insolvency and restructuring assignments, including those involving charities, professional services firms, and regulated entities, as well as accelerated mergers and acquisitions and turnaround roles where early, decisive action is required.
My sector experience spans a broad range of industries, including manufacturing, professional services, transport, retail, engineering, and the charity sector.
This breadth of experience allows me to think commercially and creatively when options appear limited, balancing technical requirements with practical, outcome-focused solutions. I work closely with my experienced team and a trusted network of intermediaries to manage complex situations, while remaining acutely aware of the personal and commercial pressures faced by directors and business owners during periods of financial stress.
Personally speaking
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with family and friends and have a keen interest in sport. I play both golf and football and enjoy skiing whenever the opportunity arises.
