In conjunction with the launch of our values earlier on in 2021, we’ve created two different groups dedicated to encouraging engagement across key areas of the firm: a Values Committee and a Social Committee!

For each, team members across each core office – Derby, Birmingham, Nottingham, and Ashbourne – volunteered to become a member of one of the committees. This has meant dedicating time for meetings, listening to and celebrating the input of others, and having the confidence and initiative to form and share ideas.

Recently, both committees met up for their first, in-person meeting, which were all-round successes and set in motion various events and activities for future months.

But what exactly is the purpose of each committee and what do each of them aim to achieve?

Values Committee

Following the development of our company values at the start of the year – Engage, Empower, and Excel – it became essential to ensure that the ethos and culture were consistently promoted and embodied by all staff.

Part of the Values Committee’s role is to discuss, plan, and proactively drive matters relating to company culture. No idea is too great or small, and the input of everyone involved is truly valued!

Recently, committee members discussed the various ways that the values are currently being embedded across the firm. A timeline was also developed looking at upcoming events and assessing the way such events can promote and link to the values.

Social Committee

At PKF Smith Cooper, we’ve always loved a social and the chance to spend time with our colleagues away from our desks, so it seemed only right to create a dedicated Social Committee, allowing our team to organise activities and events that appeal to them.

Our past social events have been thundering successes, with events ranging from sports competitions to team-building activities. The overall aim of the committee is to plan and set up a range of different social events for team members – whether it’s for a particular department or office – with committee members welcoming input from other colleagues to generate outside-of-the box suggestions.

In their most recent meeting, committee members spent time excitedly planning office Christmas parties and effectively got the ball rolling on the organisation side. The group spent time gathering ideas for consideration and made sure everyone had a chance to be heard, before booking venues, sorting food choices and arranging the all-important office Secret Santa!

We can’t wait to see what both our hardworking committees come up with in future – we know it’ll be great.
