I work largely with owner-managed and family businesses, helping them achieve their goals. This involves advising on the taxation issues that arise on transactions such as business sales and purchases, mergers and demergers, employee incentive schemes and succession planning.

Experience counts

I started my career in 2012 working in the accounts department of local company having graduated from university with no real idea of what I wanted to do. I enjoyed bookkeeping and working on the accounts so decided to study for the ACCA qualification.

I then worked at a couple of local accountancy practices preparing statutory and management accounts along with personal and corporate tax returns, working mainly with private and family-owned businesses. I really enjoyed the two ACCA tax papers, so decided to study for the CTA qualification after completing ACCA.

During my studies, I won two ACCA awards for achieving the highest mark on the tax papers for that sitting, and two CTA medals.

I spent three years working at a couple of Top 10 firms gaining experience of working both on personal and corporate tax advisory matters, before moving back to a local practice and then joining PKF Smith Cooper to focus on transactional tax in October.

Deeper knowledge

I’ve worked in both personal and corporate tax over the last 5 years. The main areas that I focus on are business sales and acquisitions, employee incentives, corporate reconstructions and succession planning.

Personally speaking

In my spare time, I enjoy going out on my bike, hiking and skiing. I’ve also got a long list of places I’d like to visit now all my exams are completed!
